March 17 update from Mr. Roggeman

March 18, 2020

Good afternoon Forest Grove Families,

By now, you have heard that Monterey County has issued a shelter in place order. For Forest Grove, this means that our school will be closed beginning tomorrow through April 8.

Our teachers have worked diligently over the past two days to prepare instructional materials for our students. We recognize that communicating online and accessing the resources digitally will take some adjustment time. Remember, it is completely fine for us to move slowly through this process. Our main goal is to play a role in establishing a productive routine for our students to maintain their progress and continue instruction as long as our school is closed.

There will be a learning curve for our students, for our teachers, and for our families. This is the perfect time for us to model the patience tool for our children. If the process is not smooth right away, we will keep trying until we get it.

A few reminders:

Lunch is being served daily at the PGHS lower parking lot. This service is NOT affected by the shelter in place order.

If you need technology, indicate that need on the district survey, and we will provide what you need.

All school activities are postponed at that this time. When school is back in session, we will reschedule those on a case-by-case basis.

Teachers remain your first point of contact. Their office hours are 9-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m.

You may still call the school. Our office staff will be checking messages from home every hour from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Our Falcon Families have shown great support for our staff as we confront this new educational reality. If you can, please reach out to your teachers and any of our staff to thank them for their efforts. They are a team of dedicated educators who are learning to teach a new way. I could not be more proud of their work, and the positive attitudes they have displayed as they have faced this challenge head on.

Working together, we will not only get through this situation, but we will improve as a school because of it.

We appreciate you all,

Buck Roggeman, Principal
